With the emphasis this year rightfully on the presidential election, it would be easy to overlook the Clallam County Charter Review Commission race.
That commission consists of five commissioners from each of the three county commissioner districts and performs an important role in proposing amendments to the county’s Home Rule Charter in a continuing effort to improve county government.
Choosing the best 15 people to become those commissioners is a difficult task, made easier by the Voter’s Pamphlet mailed by the Secretary of State, and by the PDN’s Olympic Peninsula Voter Guide.
While there are a lot of good candidates, one who really stands out is Ron Richards in District 2.
His experience as a Clallam County commissioner who played a major role in writing the many ordinances that were mandated to implement the charter, his experience in steering the county through the initial stages of governance under the charter, and his experience as an attorney since then dealing with the charter, would be a great benefit to the commission.
