LETTER: Recent Trump controversies have created a constitutional crisis

When James Clapper, the former director of national intelligence, says that American political institutions are under attack from external and internal sources, he was referring to Russia as the external source and President Donald Trump’s administration as the internal source.

Russia’s meddling to influence the American election is in effect an act of war.

We are witnessing the deconstruction of the administrative state per the ideology of Stephen Bannon and the chaos from within the White House.

But reportedly passing highly classified information from a second source to an adversary and probable obstruction of justice of an investigation about campaign associations with that adversary creates a constitutional crisis.

It is time for Americans of all political persuasions to ask themselves if their country’s democracy is loftier than politics.
