LETTER: Proposed health care act would hurt, not help, millions

The results of the proposed new health care act would hurt millions of Americans as they fall through the hole created by a tax break for 1 percent of the wealthiest.

And the proponents want to speed it through Congress before the true costs and consequences can be assessed.

The Affordable Care Act was not perfect, but it made the first attempt to serve the self-employed and our low-income and vulnerable neighbors.

We have sacrificed both common sense and fairness on the altar of the free market, which might work for selling widgets but fails when it comes to health care.

Why not take the best ideas from all the other developed nations, where outcomes are far better and costs far lower?

If we truly want a health care system that can promote wellness and serve everyone instead of an insurance profit machine, it’s high time we look honestly at a universal Medicare-for-all system.
