LETTER: Port Angeles planning for trail ‘problem’ that doesn’t exist

On Oct. 13, the Peninsula Daily News ran an article on the Olympic Discovery Trail open house [“Homeowners Give Input On ODT Segments At Open House”].

One person is quoted as saying once our questions were answered, the feedback was “overwhelmingly positive.”

I’m not sure what open house he attended, but in all the time I was there, only two people were in favor of destroying our neighborhood, and they live on the east side of town — not in the affected area.

And I only know of one family who lives in the area — who was not at the open house — that is in favor of the project.

The idea that those who live on the north side of the street will have to cross the trail, step over a traffic-trail separator, then cross two lanes of traffic to get their mail and newspaper is ludicrous.

The ODT does not belong in a residential neighborhood.

I realize the funding for this project is earmarked for it, according to the city website, but it is still a waste of money to solve a problem that really doesn’t exist.
