LETTER: Not a mere riot

Pat Buchanan has mischaracterized the event at the U.S. Capitol as a mere riot.

He is wrong.

In Mr. Buchanan’s commentary, he quotes his own article written the day after the Jan. 6 assault and desecration of the U.S. Capitol.

After describing the mob as a segment of a friendly crowd of 50,000 pumped Trumpists, he ended by saying “and the event will be forever exploited to discredit not only Trump but the movement he led and the achievements of his presidency.”

He states “the left cannot let go of Jan. 6, 2021. Indeed, it has fixed upon, exploited, and exaggerated the riot to discredit and destroy the Trump presidency in the history books and to prevent Trump from ever running and being elected president again.”

Yes, Mr. Buchanan, Jan. 6, 2021 was a planned coup attempt from the White House to the Willard Hotel, according New York Times, which also reported that Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn suggested to the ex-president that he invoke emergency powers and have the military intervene and seize voting machines and that a bevy of lawyers close to the president dug into their bag looking for any trick to overturn a free and fair election.

I believe it was terrorism, sedition and treason and yes I hope it keeps that monster from ever being back.

As for exaggerating the riot, it was described as looking like an ordinary tourist visit, as a false flag FBI operation or that rioters were ANTIFA dressed as Trump supporters.
