LETTER: Need tougher sentences to deter drug violations

Our drug problem is huge and growing.

An official told me once that “you can’t stop it.”

He did not say you can’t slow it down.

When you have an enormous problem like this, you do something about it or face a terrible future.

Clearly the penalties for destroying young lives are not severe enough.

If you face 10 years at hard labor, that may help.

The second violation could mean a life sentence.

Your life in prison may be better than the lives you helped destroy.

The drug problem in Singapore is almost non-existent.
