LETTER: More advance planning needed for Port Angeles cleanup

As a longtime resident of Port Angeles, I look forward to the annual Clallam spring cleanup day.

Each year I collect heavy items which need disposal and wait for this special day.

The community participation is impressive.

Many of the workers are friends or acquaintances which makes this day extra special.

Not only are we benefiting the Port Angeles Food Bank, but each truckload of refuse taken to the dump prevents this refuse from making its way into our vacant lots, dead end streets and forests.

In the years past, the process although lengthy progressed smoothly.

This year, it appeared the queue was at a complete stop for hours after the official opening.

This could have been prevented with a bit of prior planning and hiring members of the community.

John Barone,

Port Angeles
