LETTER: LSU Tigers player’s speech inspires donations to hometown food pantry

American Spirit

It was refreshing to wake up to positive news Friday.

Louisiana State University Tigers, winners of the 2019 College Football Playoff National Championship, were honored by President Donald Trump at the White House.

Joe Burrow, 23, winner of the Heisman Trophy, helped win the national title 42-25 over Clemson University.

Burrow’s emotional speech affected those who watched. Equally important he recalled his hometown as one of the most impoverished communities in the United States.

Burrow’s speech lifted the spirit of America and helped put food on the table for his hometown when it sparked more than $350K in donations to the Athens County Food Pantry.

A reminder to our youth.

No matter where you live, no matter the circumstance set your goals they can and will be achieved.
