LETTER: Letting car prowl happen was my fault, but I’ll know better next time

We had a car prowl May 29 in Port Angeles in the 1000 block of South Albert Street.

My wife’s car was entered and someone riffled through it.

The change was taken — but they left the pennies.

My bedroom window is about 12 feet from the car.

Previously, we have been hit — once as I was totally prepared to go fishing with my buddy and my boat was in my driveway, and they took it all.

I mean they took it all.

We have had several car thefts in the past, all my fault.

I left the doors unlocked each time.

Some would say I invited them in.

Some would say I was dumb. After all, I should have learned by now.

Will it be my fault if I hurt someone I catch breaking into my stuff?

How much can I hurt them?

Should I offer them a sandwich because they just might be hungry?

Can cops do anything about it other than give me advice?

My wife and I work very hard for what we have.

All is earned, none by any other means.

We have taught our children to be the same way.

We take pride in ownership.

Yes, I will be more diligent and lock up.

No, I will have no mercy if I catch a thief.

Yes, it will be your fault if a punk rips you off.

No, I will not blame you if you strongly discourage a thief from stealing your stuff.

I am boiling mad and it’s my fault.

Robert Beausoleil,

Port Angeles
