LETTER: Lack of traffic control during Sequim Lavender Weekend created dangerous situation

A very bad traffic congestion situation was created this past weekend during the 2017 Sequim Lavender Weekend at the intersection of U.S. Highway 101 and Knapp Road.

This situation — no doubt — resulted in a negative experience for both residents, out-of-town visitors and probably other fest farms and vendors.

I saw at least one very bad accident and experienced traffic jams that went for a very long distance both east and west on U.S. Highway 101.

This condition was either a result of an oversight or possibly even irresponsible decisions by local government for allowing left turns in and out of the venue onto the highway without some sort of traffic control.

I hope that this is addressed by government and Lavender Weekend officials before next year’s event.

As it stands, I will be advising all my out-of-town friends to avoid Sequim during future Lavender Weekends.

This is truly a dangerous situation, and no doubt people were injured this year.
