LETTER: Here’s my endorsement of Smith, Whetham for Port Angeles City Council

The Our Water Our Choice Political Action Committee has observed the Port Angeles City Council closely for the past two years as we have advocated for clean water and giving choice to citizens to refuse the addition of fluorosilicic acid and other ingredients to city drinking water.

Our favorite council person, Lee Whetham, now stands for re-election in the primary for City Council Position 2.

If this were a sport, we would name Lee Whetham “most valuable player.”

He is knowledgeable, level-headed, cost-conscious, hardworking, open-minded and, above all, fair.

OWOC PAC also endorses Marolee Smith for council Position 2.

Her frequent attendance at council meetings is fortified by her extensive research of past city records.

In other words, she is qualified to contribute from the first day on the job.

Compassion, responsibility, respect for individual rights and ethics are characteristics that shape her.

For instance, she is refusing all campaign contributions to eliminate any trace of doubt that she could be influenced by them to favor any donor.

That’s unusual and would be a valuable aspiration for all officeholders in general.
