LETTER: Hats off to Port Angeles chamber, business for sponsoring motivational speaker

Who knows how many young sports hopefuls were inspired by the nationally renowned Trevor Moawad during his recent visit?

Congratulations to the Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce, as well as major sponsors Ruddell Auto Mall, 7 Cedars Casino, First Federal and Lakeside Industries, for bringing Trevor Moawad to our community to speak to our athletes Oct. 18 at the Red Lion Hotel.

The nationally renowned sports mental coach, who has helped shape Russell Wilson into a national star and a role model, and who helped Alabama win a number of national football championships, delivered an outstanding message: “Why Winners Win.”

We may never know which of the hundreds of young athletes, from Stevens Middle School to Port Angeles High School to Peninsula College, who were in attendance will take something they learned from Trevor and go on to greatness.

What we do know is that his message was outstanding, it was positive, it was inspiring — and it was heard.

We are blessed to have many outstanding coaches at all levels of sports in our community, but special appreciation to Port Angeles Regional Chamber of Commerce President Sharon Thompson and consultant Jim Haguewood for bringing such a high-caliber speaker to our community to share a message about achieving success in all walks of life.

Let’s continue to seek opportunities as a community to collaborate and to invest in our youths in such a positive way, and hats off to our local businesses for providing the resources to make it happen.

Rick Ross,

Port Angeles
