LETTER: Feed children

Generally I read differing opinions on social media or in the newspaper without comment.

Frankly, I appreciate living in a purple county, where we can disagree but still be neighbors.

However, this time I’m moved to reply to the rant in Sunday’s paper complaining that a small bit of our taxes is going toward free meals for school children.

In my view, given a chance, our community’s children will become educated, productive citizens who will keep our nation on a steady course even as we grow old and die.

Even though my own children are long out of school, I feel an obligation now to ensure that my neighbor’s children are fed, so that the rumblings in their tummies don’t interfere with their studies.

It is such a small price to pay.

So, yes, in this case, I do, almost, enjoy the side dish of those taxes.

I sincerely hope there are others who concur.
