LETTER: Enforcement of federal immigration laws would have prevented these senseless deaths

“In Los Angeles, we don’t separate people from their families because its inhumane.”

Those words of Mayor Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti are typical of advocates of sanctuary cities, counties and states.

These “sanctuaries” restrict or forbid cooperation with Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The consequences are inevitable.

It is an unfortunate situation these illegal immigrant families find themselves in, but if separated, they do have the opportunity to reunite at some point.

That opportunity does not exist for innocent victims who have lost their lives as a result of illegal immigrant murder, manslaughter and vehicular assault crimes.

This inhumane separation of families is final and permanent.

Ask the families of Kate Steinle, Jamiel Shaw, Grant Ronnebeck, Bob Barry Jr. and Vanessa Pham, all dead at the hands of illegal immigrants or allegedly killed by illegal immigrants (see www.ojjpac.org).

There are countless more, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said earlier this year.

Enforcement of federal immigration laws would have prevented most of these deaths.

Because you sanctuary advocates seem to be OK with this collateral damage, do this: Close your eyes and imagine you can see the terror and pain on the face of 24-year-old college student Lauren Bump as she was brutally stabbed to death by illegal immigrant Christian Bautista.

Also imagine you can see the terror and pain on the face of 23-year-old Matthew Denice as he was allegedly struck and dragged two blocks by illegal immigrant Nicolas Guaman’s pickup.

Now imagine these terror-stricken faces belong to your daughter or your son.

This does not always happen to someone else.
