LETTER: Confusing letter

There was a confusing letter in the Peninsula Daily News on Saturday, Aug. 20.

It stated that we should get rid of Tharinger, Chapman and Van de Wege because they vote with the Seattle liberals and ignore their constituents.

Since Van de Wege and Chapman both won by 10 percent and Tharinger with 7 percent more than their conservative challengers, voting with the Seattle liberals is exactly what the people of this district voted for them to do.

Claiming they are voting against “overwhelming public input” when they passed the gun control legislation ignores the fact that, in fact, an overwhelming percentage of voters in all 50 states favor gun control to some degree.

The problem isn’t that these men don’t understand their base; the problem is that the minority listens to too much right-wing radio and FOX news, and, as a result, have come to believe that they are speaking for the majority.

Liberal Democrat politicians represent 40 million more citizens than the GOP.

The country, including this district, appreciate what they are doing and agree with Gov. Jay Inslee when he makes attempts to save the planet from environmental tragedy.

If we would have listened to science and the green movement 50 years ago and started working toward a safer and sustainable energy, we wouldn’t be in this mess, and we are paying the price for letting the Republicans put their fossil-fuel donors’ interests ahead of the health and security of our nation.
