Weekend arts events set on Peninsula

An outdoor knitting circle, jazz live in a castle courtyard, classical music in and around a barn: They’re happening tonight through Sunday on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Many of these events are free while others are presented by nonprofit organizations.

Before setting out, it’s a good idea to check websites and social media pages for updates.

Here’s a sampling of local arts and entertainment.

Vocalist Jean Lenke is bringing her jazz combo outdoors tonight for a concert from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Pianist George Radebaugh, bassist Chuck Easton, drummer Tom Svornich and trumpeter-flugelhorn player Ed Donahue will back Lenke up in the courtyard at The Castle in Port Townsend, 651 Cleveland St.

More about the singer is found at jeantherapymusic.com.

Abby Mae & the Homeschool Boys have reunited after a nine-year hiatus and will play outdoors tonight at Jardin du Soleil Lavender Farm, 3932 Sequim-Dungeness Way just north of Sequim, from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Admission is by donation and concert-goers are encouraged to bring camp chairs, picnic blankets and picnic suppers; beverages will be available for purchase.

Concerts in the Barn presents the last two free performances of the summer at 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Trillium Woods Farm, 7360 Center Road, Quilcene.

The Fulton Street Chamber Players will offer music of Robert Schumann and Ernö Dohnányi plus “Tangents and Detours” for cello and piano, a contemporary piece by Seattle composer Ken Benshoof. Fulton Street cellist Walter Gray plans to invite Benshoof on stage for a brief interview and discussion with the audience.

Concert-goers who are fully vaccinated can choose to sit inside the barn; those who aren’t yet fully immunized or who prefer to be outdoors can bring camp chairs and picnic blankets for the lawn outside.

Either way, patrons must reserve via concertsinthe barn.org and the “free tickets required” link. Information is also available at 360-732-0732 and concertsinthe barn@gmail.com.

The Community Garage Sale and Port Townsend Rock Club sale will happen from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds, 4017 Landes St., Port Townsend.

Early birds have the option of paying $10 to enter at 8:15 a.m. at the information booth near the front gate.

A bake sale, an assortment of garage-sale items, handmade jewelry, lapidary and jewelry-making tools and mineral specimens — with 35 vendors indoors and out — are all part of this event.

Proceeds from the garage sale benefit the Jefferson County Fair Association, which can be reached at 360-385-1013 and jeffco fairgrounds@olympen.com.

For information about the rock club, phone 206-779-1969 or visit www.Port townsendrockclub.org.

A social knit is open to fiber artists and craftspeople — everyone who knits, crochets, weaves — from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday in the Port Angeles Fine Arts Center courtyard, 1203 E. Lauridsen Blvd., Port Angeles.

Cabled Fiber & Yarn will host the group, for which face masks are required.

There’s no charge, and information is found at PAFAC.org.

The Fat Chance Band brings rock ’n’ roll covers and originals to Olympic Cellars Winery for a benefit concert at 6 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds will support the Clallam County League of Women Voters.

Tickets are $17 in advance at olympiccellars.com/summer-concert-series or $20 at the gate, 255410 U.S. Highway 101 east of Port Angeles. Children 12 and younger are admitted free to the concert, and everybody is encouraged to bring their own chairs and picnic dinners. Olympic Cellars will have a food vendor plus artisan cheeses and crackers for sale.

“Broadway in Your PJs,” an hour-long show filmed at Port Angeles’ Lincoln Theater, is Ghostlight Production’s showcase of local performers and Broadway hits including “Chicago,” “South Pacific,” “Sweeney Todd,” “Bright Star” and “Mamma Mia!” It’s available for streaming now through Sept. 4, with tickets by donation via www.ghost lightwa.org.

The Port Townsend Summer Band comes to Pope Marine Plaza, Water Street at Madison Street in downtown Port Townsend, at 3 p.m. Sunday. Music lovers are invited to bring family, friends and chairs to this free concert. The afternoon’s theme is the Great Outdoors, so numbers will include a medley from “The Lion King,”, “Manhattan Beach March,” “Alamo” and “Saturday in the Park.” For details see www.ptsummer band.org.
