Walking tours in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Jefferson County Historical Society will lead walking tours of downtown Port Townsend on Saturdays in July and August.

“The Vanishing Murals of Port Townsend” returns for its third year from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

This tour introduces some of the faded advertising murals from the 19th and 20th centuries that are hiding in plain sight throughout the downtown district.

This year the society has added “Legends and Lore of Port Townsend” from 2 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.

The new tour draws on some of the more infamous, mysterious and salacious stories in Port Townsend’s history to show how documents, photos, physical evidence and passed down stories play into how we discern fact from fiction.

The 90-minute walking tours are limited to 12 people and cost $20 per person, $15 for society members.
