Valentine’s Day events among Peninsula activities

Valentine’s Day celebrations are among the entertainment planned on the North Olympic Peninsula this weekend and early next week.

• “Love Letters” by A.R. Gurney will be presented as a Valentine’s Day treat at Olympic Theatre Arts today through Sunday and on Tuesday. The play at the theater, 414 N. Sequim Ave., tells the story of two characters sharing their deepest thoughts from childhood to old age. The curtain will rise at 7 p.m. today and Saturday, 2 p.m. Sunday and 7 p.m. Tuesday. Tickets are $35 and include the show, dessert and a glass of champagne.

Advance purchase is recommended. They are available online at olympic theatrearts.org or by calling the box office between 1 p.m. and 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday.

• Michal Palzewicz Trio will perform in the Juan de Fuca Foundation for the Arts’ Season Concerts series this Saturday. The Michal Palzewicz Trio, which bills itself as a “classical folk art” ensemble, will perform at 7 p.m. at the Naval Elks Lodge, 131 E. First St., Port Angeles. Tickets to the show are available at JFFA.org and at the door of the Naval Elks Lodge. Advance prices range from $10 for ages 17 and younger and $15 for students ages 18-21 to $30 for adults.

Spaghetti dinner is offered at the Sequim Prairie Grange from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. The meal will be served in the grange hall at 290 Macleay Road.

The menu includes spaghetti, green salad, garlic bread, dessert, coffee and tea.

Dinner costs $12 per person, $6 for children ages 11 or younger. Proceeds benefit the grange maintenance fund.

• Teen board game and art night is planned at the Sequim Public Library from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. tonight.

Teens in seventh through 12th grades will have pizza and board games and create art at the library, 630 N. Sequim Ave. The program was designed with input from the library’s teen advisory board and funded by local friends of the library groups. Future teen game nights are planned for the second Friday in March and April.

Pottery demo is planned by Janet Piccola from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. The free demonstration is at the Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. • Vanishing Prairie will perform from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Saturday at the Port Angeles Eagles, 2843 E. Myrtle St., Port Angeles.

The cover charge is $10 per person, $8 for members.

• Yard and garden lecture series will present Jane Billinghurst speaking about “Getting the Most Out of Your Next Forest Adventure” from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Billinghurst is the first speaker in the 25th Yard and Garden online lecture series sponsored by the Jefferson County Master Gardener Foundation. The series will be on Saturday mornings through March 25. Billinghurst is the co-author with Peter Wohlleben of “Forest Walking: Discovering the Trees and Woodlands of North America.”

• Washington Old Time Fiddlers Association will host a jam session from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The jam session is at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 Fifth Ave., Sequim. Performers with other acoustic instruments, such as guitars, bases, mandolins, autoharps, ukuleles, dulcimers and percussion instruments are welcome to attend. The jam session is free, although donations to support the association’s scholarship program are welcome.

• Valentine’s gala is set at Olympic Unitarian Universalist Fellowship from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

This inaugural “Hearty Party” Valentine’s Gala is in the fellowship hall, 1033 N. Barr Road, Port Angeles.

The free, family-friendly party features international chocolate tasting, live music, dancing, hot food, games for all ages and a singalong featuring Tom Shindler. A raffle to benefit The Answer For Youth also is planned.

• St. Valentine’s Pawtraits will be shot by Jeffrey Fong from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at The Chamber of Jefferson County, 2409 Jefferson St., Port Townsend. Proceeds benefit Center Valley Animal Rescue and the chamber’s Community Development Fund.

• Valentine’s Day Craft Fair is set for noon to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Palindrome, 1893 S. Jacob Miller Road, Port Townsend. The fair features live music, cider tasting, jewelry, candles, glass, pottery, taxidermy, leather, metal craft and fairy houses.

• The Big Stardust Band will perform from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Sunday at the Sequim Elks Lodge, 143 Port Williams Road, Sequim.

The cover charge is $12 per person, $10 for Elks members.

• Sea Tales series will present Emiliano Marino reading “Tales from the Titanic: Stories from the Survivors” from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

The reading is part of the Sea Tales on a Winter’s Eve series at the Artful Sailor, 410 Washington St., Port Townsend. A portion of the suggested $20 donation will benefit the Port Townsend Marine Trades Association’s Lifeboat Fund.
