Sequim to host sixth Sunshine Festival

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim will host its sixth Sunshine Festival on Friday and Saturday.

The festival will open with a ceremony at 5 p.m. on the Plaza at the Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The ceremony will include a welcome by Mayor Brandon Janisse, the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe’s “Hooya Hooyay” Social Dance and a ribbon cutting by the Sequim Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Returning to the festival will be the Sun Fun Color Run, Interactive Light Experience, Sunshine Market and the Illuminated Drone Show, which will feature 300 drones this year.

New events will include Boards, Bags and Brainpower: Speed Cornhole and Trivia following the opening ceremony on Friday evening and Sunshine After Dark with the Super Nostalgic Band following Saturday evening’s drone show.

The Sun Fun Color Run will start at 11 a.m. at Albert Haller Playfields with 1-kilometer and 5K options available. Register at www.visitsunnysequim.com/307/2024-sun-fun-color-run.

Other events include:

• Interactive Light Experience Exhibit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from noon to 6:30 p.m. Saturday in the clubhouse at Pioneer Park, 387 E. Washington St.

• Navy Band Northwest Brass Band concert at 7 p.m. Friday in the auditorium at the Sequim High School Auditorium, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

• Sun Fun Color Run Race bib pickup from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Friday at Barhop Brewery and Artisan Pizza, 845 W. Washington St.

Activities at Carrie Blake Park, 202 N. Blake Ave., from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday:

• Sunshine Market at the Guy Cole Event Center.

• Kids’ Zone from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Guy Cole Event Center.

• Live Music and the Beer and Wine Garden in a large tent adjacent to the Guy Cole Event Center.

• Outdoor Food Court outside Guy Cole Event Center.

• Community Art Project in the Guy Cole Event Center.

• Pet Costume Contest at 3 p.m. behind the Guy Cole Center; registration begins at noon.

• Illuminated Drone Show by Firefly Drone Company at 7 p.m. Saturday.

• Sunshine After Dark Party from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. This new addition includes live music, a beer and wine garden and a snack menu.
