Sequim photographer Hamilton is featured guest at heritage presentation

SEQUIM — The Sequim Museum & Arts features Ross Hamilton as the first guest of its winter heritage presentations, “History Classes at the Old Dungeness Schoolhouse,” at 2 p.m. Sunday.

The presentation will be at the Dungeness Schoolhouse, 2769 Towne Road.

Admission will be by donation, with all funds going to the care of the old school building.

There is limited space, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early.

Judy Reandeau Stipe, executive director of Sequim Museum & Arts, announced that these informal sessions featuring speakers sharing history of the area will be held each month through February.

“Ross was a perfect choice to give our first class with his connections to the Sequim prairie, Dungeness and his family history back to the 1890s,” Reandeau Stipe said.

Trained by world-renowned photographer Ansel Adams, Hamilton went on to earn his own acclaim. He has been an icon on the Olympic Peninsula for about five decades — one of the last large-format photographers to photograph the backcountry of the Olympic Mountain range.

Despite losing his vision, Hamilton continues to share images and experiences with photographers and outdoor advocates on the Olympic Peninsula in small group settings across the region.
