PORT TOWNSEND — The Port Townsend Symphony Orchestra will present the third concert in its Chamber Music Series at 3 p.m. Saturday at the First Presbyterian Church of Port Townsend.
Admission is free, and no tickets or registration are required. The church is located at 1111 Franklin St. Donations for the PTSO will be accepted at the door.
The PTSO Chamber Music Series provides free concerts featuring local soloists, chamber musicians and PTSO members playing a variety of ensembles.
Pianist Michael Carroll and cellist Pamela Roberts are artistic directors of the series.
“For this concert, we are featuring 12 local artists — each with rich musical backgrounds,” Carroll said. “The concerts are attracting a devoted audience and word is getting out among musicians that it provides a fulfilling performance avenue for them. We keep our concerts to about one hour in length and feel positive about providing valuable and accessible musical experiences for the community.”
Featured artists are Marie Meyers, flute; Anne Krabill, oboe; Vincent Oneppo, clarinet; Sarah Moran, soprano; Otto Smith and Rolf Vegdahl, concertina; Marina Rosenquist, violin; Kristin Smith, violin; Sung-Ling Hsu, viola; Pamela Roberts, cello; Michael Carroll, piano; and Lisa Lanza, piano.
The program includes selections from the “London” Trio for flute, oboe and cello by Joseph Haydn; the Grand Trio in G major for flute, cello and piano by Friedrich Kuhlau; the Concertino for Oboe and Strings by Brenno Blauth; and the Trio in B-flat major for clarinet, cello and piano by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The program also features “Gabriel’s Oboe” by Ennio Morricone, Two Jazz Duets (for two concertinas) by Stephen Jackman and “The Shepherd on the Rock” for soprano, clarinet and piano by Franz Schubert.
