A robot costume gets a lot of attention during a previous Main Street Downtown Trick or Treat in Port Townsend.

Peninsula plans for downtown trick-or-treaters

Other Halloween events slated for communities

Little monsters and their guardians will be out in force on Halloween.

Children will trick-or-treat at retail shops in North Olympic Peninsula downtowns Thursday.

Participating merchants will have signs in their windows that announce they are open for trick-or-treaters in Port Townsend, Port Angeles, Sequim and Forks.

• The Port Townsend Main Street Program’s annual Downtown Trick or Treat will mark 25 years of the tradition.

To commemorate this milestone, the Port Townsend Main Street Program Promotion Committee is scheduling the Main Street Family Portrait Town Photo for the start of the parade.

Participants — who are urged to come in costume — will gather at 4 p.m. at Water and Adams streets.

The photo will be taken at 4:15 p.m. by photographer David Conklin. Jefferson County Public Utility District will supply a boom truck for the photographer. Mike Kenna of Printery Communications and East Jefferson Fire-Rescue also will assist, organizers said.

The Main Street Witches will be in the front row. After the photo they will lead the parade down Water Street.

Trick-or-treating by pre-school to sixth-grade children will be at participating downtown businesses on the way back.

The Downtown Trick or Treat is sponsored by The Old Whiskey Mill, Olympic Peninsula Steam and many merchants.

Printery Communications will print the Family Portrait Town Photo posters, which will be available for sale for $10 each starting Nov. 1 at Elevated Ice Cream & Candy Co., 627 Water St., and at Printery Communications, 631 Tyler St.

The Port Townsend Main Street Program has the town photo taken every two years. The Port Townsend Main Street Promotion Committee will coordinate the event.

Water Street and some side streets from Madison to Polk will be closed to traffic between 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.

• In Port Angeles, downtown merchants will hand out candy to trick-or-treaters from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

All participating merchants will have orange “Trick or Treat Here” signs in their windows.

A self-serve photo opportunity will be available at the Conrad Dyer Fountain at First and Laurel streets, said April Bellerud, president of the Port Angeles Downtown Association, which sponsors the trick-or-treating.

The William Shore Pool, Platypus Marine and the Upward Bound program plan tables outside during trick-or-treating.

Olympic Kiwanis volunteers and Upward Bound students will help with street crossings.

•The Sequim Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce will host Downtown Trick or Treat from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday.

Participating merchants will display orange paper pumpkins in the windows.

The Sequim-Dungeness Valley Chamber of Commerce and Sequim merchants sponsor the free event.

• In Forks, trick-or-treating will be going on all day on Halloween at participating businesses, with the high point from 4:30 p.m. to 5:40 p.m. in the downtown.

Other Halloween events are planned on the North Olympic Peninsula.

Community party

FORKS — Concerned Citizens will host a Halloween party from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today.

The party will be at Sunshine and Rainbows’ Family First Center, 945 S. Forks Ave.

Costumes are optional at this free, public event.

The party will include activities, treats, crafts and games.

All children attending must be accompanied by an adult.

Rain of Terror

FORKS — The Rain of Terror Haunted Hangar will open from 7 p.m. to midnight today, Saturday and Thursday.

The haunted hangar is at Quillayute Airport, 5144 Quillayute Road.

Admission will be $10 tonight, Saturday, Thursday and Nov. 1 and 2 at the haunting event that claims to be the Olympic Peninsula’s most extreme Halloween Experience.

Truck or Treat

FORKS — The Assembly of God church will host a Truck or Treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday.

More than 30 vehicles will be on the campus of the church at 81 Huckleberry Lane.

FORKS — Long Term Care’s annual Halloween Trick or Treating is planned at Forks Community Hospital at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Residents of Long Term Care at the hospital at 530 Bogachiel Way will hand out candy to children in costume.

LA PUSH

Halloween Carnival

LA PUSH — The Quileute Tribe’s Halloween Carnival is planned from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The free carnival will be at the Akalat Center.

Games with prizes are planned.

Halloween dance

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will host a Halloween dance from 9 p.m. to midnight Saturday.

The dance will be in the Pirates Union Building at the college, 1502 E Lauridsen Blvd.

Admission is $3 per student, $5 per guest, only one guest per student.

Low Sensory Carnival

PORT ANGELES — Stay & Play Port Angeles is hosting a low sensory Fall Carnival for children with special needs, their siblings and parents/caregivers from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The carnival will be in the Fellowship Hall at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 301 E. Lopez Ave.

The carnival will feature games such as ring toss, golf ball shuffle, plinko and ping pong toss, and attendees can also enjoy decorating masks, trick-or-treat bags and pumpkins.

Pumpkin carving

PORT ANGELES — A pumpkin carving contest is planned at Peninsula College.

Carving can begin as early as 8 a.m. Tuesday, judging will commence at 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Students can pick up free pumpkins to carve at the Associated Student Council office in the Pirates Union Building, 1502 E Lauridsen Blvd.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

Costume contest

PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College will have a costume contest for current students and faculty at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

Prizes will be awarded for first, second and third place.

The judging will be in the Pirates Union Building, 1502 E Lauridsen Blvd.

Harvest party

PORT ANGELES — Bethany Pentecostal Church plans a harvest party from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The free party will be at the church at 505 S. Francis St.

The event features face-painting, a trunk-or-treat, a cookie walk, hot dogs, chips and juice.

Haunted hallways

SEQUIM — Haunted Hallways will be open from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.

The annual event is to be held in H building at Sequim High School, 601 N. Sequim Ave.

Parents or guardians can bring children dressed in costumes for games, crafts and treats.

Admission is one can of food for donation to the Sequim Food Bank.

Pumpkin patch

SEQUIM — The Pumpkin Patch is open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday through Thursday.

The 33-acre farm at the corner of U.S. Highway 101 and Kitchen-Dick Road offers U-pick pumpkins and a daily pumpkin shoot.

Pumpkin party

SEQUIM — Sequim Prairie Grange will host an outdoor pumpkin party and country fair on Saturday.

The pumpkin party, featuring pumpkins to carve and cookies to decorate, will begin at 3:30 p.m. in the outdoor kitchen at the grange, 290 Macleay Road.

The fair will begin at 4:30 p.m. with carnival games for 25 cents per ticket. Games will include Wheel of Fortune, darts, ring toss, face painting, guessing games and cake walk.

Hot dogs, hamburgers, beef stew and homemade pie will be available for purchase in the kitchen.

Halloween bash

SEQUIM — The Sequim unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula will host a Halloween Bash from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday.

The bash will be at the club’s Carroll C. Kendall Unit, 400 W. Fir St., Sequim.

Admission is $2 per person and includes 10 game tickets. Additional tickets will cost $1 for 10 tickets. Each game costs one ticket.

Dinner will be $2 for a slice of pizza or $3 for a slice, chips and soda.

Activities will include music and dancing, costume contest, arts and crafts, a scary movie and a cupcake walk.

A haunted house will be offered; organizers said it might not be appropriate for younger children.

Carved pumpkins for the for the jack-o’-lantern contest must be dropped off at the club between noon and 6 p.m. for judging Saturday.

Open house

SEQUIM — Bananas Preschool will host an open house from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

The school at 412 N. Haller Ave., will be open for families to enjoy candy, use the restroom or take a break while trick-or-treating near Carrie Blake Community Park.

Harvest happening

SEQUIM — Harvest-themed clothing or friendly costumes will be welcome at the “Harvest Happening” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The harvest party will be at Faith Lutheran Church, 382 W. Cedar St.

It will feature games, prizes, candy, food, crafts, a cake walk and line dancing.

A dinner of hot dogs, chili and chips also will be provided.

NORDLAND — The Friends of Fort Flagler will host “Boo! Theatrical Scary Story Readings” from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Local actors will read “The Tell Tale Heart” by Edgar Allen Poe, “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson and “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” by Washington Irving.

A 10-minute intermission is scheduled between each story.

This program is not suitable for children.
