Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble to perform in two concerts next week

PORT ANGELES – Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble will perform two free concerts next week.

Both concerts take place at the Port Angeles campus of Peninsula College at 1502 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Listen to “Jazz in the PUB” over lunch at noon Tuesday. Guests can bring their own lunch or purchase a meal from the college’s Market & Deli.

“Winter Jazz Concert” is scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday in Maier Performance Hall. Port Angeles High School jazz band will attend as guests and share the evening of jazz music.

“I’m excited to bring the Port Angeles High School Jazz Band to the college,” said PC’s new Jazz Ensemble Director, Marge Rosen.

“The high school will present Blue Man Group and Weapons of Brass Destruction (small jazz combos) and their full jazz band. Peninsula College Jazz Ensemble will perform a wide variety of big band jazz from Mary Lou Williams and Glenn Miller to Seattle composers Quincy Jones and Daniel Barry.”

Performers are from across the North Olympic Peninsula.

The College big band features freshman Avery Saul of Port Angeles singing an arrangement of the famous Nat King Cole tune “Unforgettable” and Peggy Lee’s version of “Fever.”

Robbin Eaves of Joyce will sing the classics, “What’s Your Story, Morning Glory” and “A Kiss To Build A Dream On,” along with other picks from the Great American Songbook.

From Port Angeles are Jim Bradbury, Larry Madsen, Nancy McPherson and Brock Tejeda on trumpet, and conductor Rosen on drums.

From Sequim are John Wethrill on piano, Kendall Melton on bass, Liberty Mavy on violin, Jayne Morrison on alto sax, Jeff Fox and Kevin MacCartney on tenor sax, Dan James on trumpet, and Jeff Dingle and Tom Hartig on trombone.

Other performers include John Adams on alto sax and bass clarinet and Dan Powell on trombone who commute from the Port Townsend area to join the group.
