Northwind Reading Series set Thursday in Port Townsend

PORT TOWNSEND — The Northwind Reading Series will feature Sandra Yannone and Linda Strever at 7 p.m. Thursday.

The readings will be at Northwind Arts Center, 701 Water St.

Suggested donation is $5.

Yannone is on the faculty and directs the Writing Center at The Evergreen State College in Olympia. She grew up on the coast of Connecticut with a daily view of Long Island Sound.

Her poetry and book reviews have appeared in numerous journals including Ploughshares, Prairie Schooner, The Gay and Lesbian Review, Women’s Review of Books, Calyx and Seattle Review.

Her poem “Requiem for Orlando” was chosen for the August 2016 special issue of Glass: A Poetry Journal in response to the Pulse nightclub shootings.

For the past two years she has given readings in Limerick, Ireland, while conducting research on the Titanic disaster, the subject of her chapbook “Maiden Voyage.”

Strever is the author of “Against My Dreams,” a book of poetry, and “Don’t Look Away,” fiction.

Her poetry has been published in numerous journals and anthologies. Winner of the Lois Cranston Memorial Poetry Prize, her work has been a finalist for the New Issues Poetry Prize, the Levis Poetry Prize, the Ohio State University Press Award in Poetry and the Eludia Award in fiction. A Pushcart Prize nominee, she has an MFA from Brooklyn College.
