First Friday Art Walk set this weekend in Sequim

SEQUIM — First Friday Art Walk will celebrate autumn with an orange-themed art walk from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday at various venues in downtown Sequim.

Maps for the self-guided tour are available at www.sequimartwalk.com.

Special events in October include:

• Sequim Museum and Arts, 544 N. Sequim Ave., will host an opening reception for “Sublime Marvel — Splendor, Enterprise, & Awe” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and another from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

The fiber arts exhibit, part of the 19th North Olympic Fiber Arts Festival, features works by Lora Armstrong, Aaron Asselin, Renne Emiko Brock, Jordan Carter, Caroline Evergreen, Liisa Fagerlund, Mary Lou Giacomelli, Lynn Gilles, Jennifer Harris, Estelle Jackson, Connie McGuire, Robin Nelson, Sew ‘n Sews, Marla Varner, Prabha Werner and Jean Wyatt.

The exhibit will be on display through Nov. 30.

• The Blue Whole Gallery, 129 W. Washington St., will host a reception for a new exhibit, “Bright and Beautiful,” from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The exhibit, which will be on display in the gallery throughout October, features the works of new gallery members Terri Biondolino, Jeff Considine, Laura Moore, Nancy Peet, Shayna Robnett and Randy Tierney.

Peet creates bright florals using watercolor, Robnett uses oils to capture Peninsula landscapes, Tierney’s work is based in the Sumi painting style, Biondolino creates porcelain from a specifically colored clay known as Nerikomi, Considine designs and creates unique wooden boxes and Moore uses things she sees in nature to design and create jewelry.

• The Sequim Arts Commission will host a reception for its new exhibit, “To Move, Focus on Movement or Motion,” from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Karen Kuznek-Reese Gallery at the Sequim Civic Center, 152 W. Cedar St.

The exhibit is composed of 16 pieces by 12 artists that create visual movement in their work by depicting motion, leading observers from one section to another or making the artwork itself move.

Light refreshments and musical entertainment will be provided.

The exhibit will be on display through Jan. 21.

• The A. Milligan Art Studio and Gallery, 520 N. Sequim Ave., features the work of Suzan Noyes and gallery owner Anne Milligan in the main gallery.

Noyes enjoys painting natural subjects such as trees, foliage, florals, landscapes and seascapes.

“Nature attracts me with ever-changing lights and darks; these lend drama to simple views,” Noyes said. “The texture of bark and play of sun on leaf and water always stops me for a sketch or photographs. Back in my studio, one vignette will stand out, make me grab my pastels. This is what I love sharing with others.”

• Pacific Mist Books, 122 W. Washington St., will host Clay Vermulm, a horror author, book editor and creative podcaster. Copies of Vermulm’s debut novella, “Crevasse,” his short story collection, “Blue Rare,” and two collections of short stories edited by Vermulm will be available for sale at the bookstore.

• Forage Gifts and Northwest Treasures, 121 W. Washington St., will host David Rogers of Maddie’s Mushrooms.

The farm grows and propagates gourmet mushrooms available at the Sequim farmers’ market and served at restaurants around the Peninsula.

Rogers will chat about the upcoming Olympic Peninsula Fungi Festival in Port Angeles on Oct. 17-20.

• Wild Goddess Brews-n-Bites, 145 E. Washington St., Suite D, will have small bites, salads, dips and boards with a wide selection of beverages and live music.

• La Petite Maison Blanche, 213 E. Washington St., will feature uniquely curated gifts and festive treats throughout the shop and live music with Kate Lily.

• Rainshadow Cafe, 157 W. Cedar St., will host live music by Dawn and Steve from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• The Habitat Boutique Store, 213 E. Washington St., will have live music by Reckless Dove from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

• Sequim Spice and Tea, 139 W. Washington St., will have unique art, including glass, pottery, illustration and local artists’ photography. Participants also can find creative tea blends, colorful teapots, and cups and culinary gifts.

• Soup in the Alley, 138 W. Washington St., will feature a rotation of local artists, live music and treats.

• Alder Wood Bistro, 139 W. Alder St., will serve artisan wood-fired local, seasonal, organic food.

• The Cedarbrook Lavender Gift Shop, 120 W. Washington St., will have farm-fresh lavender creations, treats and vintage décor items.

• The River House Bakery and Cafe, 120 W. Bell St., will host local artists with food and bakery items.

• Pacific Pantry, 229 S. Sequim Ave., will be open until 7 p.m. with a rotation of local artists.
