SEQUIM — As he has long promised to do, dance instructor Roberto Villamarin will start a series of West Coast swing and other dance classes this evening at the Sequim Prairie Grange Hall, 290 Macleay Road.

Singles, couples and friends are encouraged to join the sessions, which are scheduled as follows:

■ 6 p.m.: West Coast swing workshop for beginners.

■ 6:45 p.m.: Intermediate West Coast swing, recommended for dancers who have taken lessons with any instructor in the past.

■ 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.: Open dance.

The fee is $48 for six Thursday night workshops or $24 for students 20 and younger.

To register, visit Villamarin’s United We Dance Global company website, www.UWDGlobal.com; email rvillamarin@uwdglobal.com; or phone 425-753-8086.

Drop-ins are welcome if the class balance is in the newcomer’s favor, Villamarin said.

No partner is necessary for his workshops, but “due to the current imbalance of leaders and followers in the Olympic Peninsula” — too few men attend dance classes — Villamarin offers a $10 discount to any follower who signs in with a leader.

A leader, he noted, is any male or female dancer who would like to take the class and learn how to lead.
