Decomposed body found in Port Townsend Bay

PORT TOWNSEND — A partially decomposed body was pulled from Port Townsend Bay this afternoon after it was spotted by a couple taking photographs of the water.

Police pulled the body out of the water in front of the Pope Marine Building at the corner of Water and Madison Streets a little before 4 p.m.

An unidentified couple taking photographs saw the corpse and phoned 9-1-1, said Mike Evans, Port Townsend Police Department spokesman.

The body was that of a woman of undetermined age, said Bill Beezley, spokesman for East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

“It’s been in the water for some time,” Beezley said.

It was to be taken to a Port Townsend funeral home, Evans said.

An autopsy is expected to be performed by a Seattle doctor, Beezley said.
