PORT ANGELES — It’s more than just a concert.
It’s a celebration of a partnership that will result in a California group offering scholarships to Peninsula College women students.
Olympic Cellars will host Random Manor, a three-piece band from Seattle, in an outdoor concert at the winery between Port Angeles and Sequim at 255410 U.S. Highway 101 at 7 p.m. Saturday.
Tickets are $10. Half of the proceeds will be donated to the Girlfriend Factor, a nonprofit organization headquartered in Palm Desert, Calif., that provides educational grants to women.
The Girlfriend Factor will extend financial assistance to women at Peninsula College this fall.
The expansion to Port Angeles is the result of a relationship that started back in 2005 between Girlfriend Factor and Olympic Cellars Winery, home of Working Girl Wines, according to a statement from the California group.
Inspired by style, efforts
Girlfriend Factor co-founder Joan Busick said she read an article in Wine Spectator about Olympic Cellars owner Kathy Charlton and her co-workers “and was so inspired by their style and efforts that we named our educational grants after their Go Girl Red.”
Busick said that to date, the group’s Go Girl! grants have help more than 70 women become self-sufficient by earning college degrees and certifications.”
In 2011, Olympic Cellars donated 12 cases of Working Girl Wine to be poured at an inaugural Wine, Chocolate & Shoes reception during Fashion Week El Paseo.
That prompted the agreement to extend Go Girl! Grants to women in the Port Angeles area, the statement said.
Girlfriend Factor was named the beneficiary of the Saturday concert to help raise funds for ongoing grants in the area.
Said Charlton: “We share a very similar philanthropic mission and approach: We help women to help themselves, provide opportunities for women to gather and build friendships and maintain fun as the operative.”
Seating for the concert will begin at 6 p.m., or visitors can bring their own lawn chairs.
Seafood, chowder, sandwiches and salads will be available, provided by Mystery Bay Seafood and Catering.
