Wind-related power outages hit eastern Clallam County

DIAMOND POINT — More than 850 homes and businesses lost power in eastern Clallam County late Tuesday and early Wednesday in three wind-related outages.

The largest outage affected 692 customers in the Diamond Point area between 1:45 a.m. and 5:09 a.m. Wednesday, said Michael Howe, Clallam County Public Utility District spokesman.

Thirty-eight customers along North Rhodefer Road in Sequim were without power from 10:01 p.m. to 11:48 p.m. Tuesday, and 129 customers off West Nelson Road in Dungeness were in the dark between 1:02 a.m. and 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.

East Jefferson

Puget Sound Energy reported no outages in East Jefferson County.

Meanwhile, downed trees blocked both lanes of U.S. Highway 101 at Falls View Campground south of Quilcene and partially blocked state Highway 112 east of Neah Bay early Wednesday morning, state Department of Transportation officials said.

The trees were cleared from Highway 101 at Milepost 298 at 1:31 a.m. and from state Highway 112 at Milepost 2 at 7:49 a.m., Transportation officials said.

The National Weather Service reported gusts as high as 44 mph at Quillayute Airport near Forks on Tuesday night.

The Weather Service removed a flood watch for the West End of Clallam and Jefferson counties Wednesday.

The watch remained in effect for the drainage basins southeast of the Olympic Mountains, mainly in Mason County.
