PORT ANGELES — Young soloists will sing for their tickets to New York City tonight and Saturday.
By tonight, the students of the Port Angeles High School Vocal Music Department will have turned the student center at the high school at 304 E. Park Ave. into a nightclub.
Admission to the Spotlight Nightclub will be $5 for students and $7.50 for adults at 7:30 p.m. each night.
The choir students in ninth through 12th grade are raising money for an April 7 trip to New York City.
They will sing in three cathedrals: St. Patrick’s, St. John the Divine and the Riverside.
Each student will pay $1,600 for the NYC experience, which along with the cathedral concerts will include all meals and lodging, sightseeing and two Broadway shows during a six-day, five-night stay in Manhattan.
During “New York for a Song,” some 25 students will sing songs made famous by Frank Sinatra, Bonnie Raitt, Foo Fighters, Bryan Adams, Johnny Cash and others.
Senior Beth Ann Brackett will offer “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” while Ethan Hoch will sing the Fighters’ “Times Like These.” “All of Me,” “Heaven” and “Ring of Fire” are also among the solos.
Crab Rangoon, teriyaki chicken rice bowls and other treats will be available.
Choir students plan a couple of fundraisers for “New York for a Song” each month until April.
Those who want to help the singers with their expenses also can donate by contacting choir director Jolene Dalton Gailey at jgailey@portangelesschools.org or 360-565-1535.
