Rough Rider cadets win at conference in Tacoma

PORT ANGELES — Port Angeles High School Naval Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps cadets won three team awards and four individual awards at the Northwest Drill and Rifle Conference at Washington High School in Tacoma.
They competed against seven other schools and more than 350 cadets Dec. 13.
Roughrider Company will compete three more times within its division this school year before going on to the annual regional competition at Mount Tahoma High School in Covington on March 14.
There, they will compete against students at 30 other schools.
At the Tacoma contest, the Armed Drill Team and Color Guard 1 each won first place, while the Physical Training Team 1 won third place.
Alexander Parrill won first place in the armed drill team commander competition.
Kylee Reid won second place in both the unarmed drill down and the iron woman contests.
Cade Levine won fourth place in the unarmed drill down.
The cadets are under the direction of Capt. Jonathan Picker and Master Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Perry.
