Port Angeles boy dies after he was pulled from water in Oregon river

GRESHAM, Ore. — A 13-year-old Port Angeles boy pulled from the water at an Oregon park has died.
Multnomah County sheriff’s Lt. Stephen Alexander identified the boy who died Wednesday as Aaron Peters, KOMO-TV reported.
The boy was with a group of about 30 other young people, a Native American leadership group.
The group decided to wade across the Sandy River, KOIN-TV of Portland, Ore., said.
“As they went across it got deeper and deeper and they decided to swim the rest of the way across,” Lt. Steve Alexander with Multnomah County Sheriff’s Office told KOIN-TV.
When they reached the other side, Peters’ companions found he was no longer with them.
They searched the area, then called 911.
By the time, rescue divers found Peters, he had been underwater for more than 30 minutes.
He was found in about 8 feet of water, about 100 yards from the Oxbow Park boat ramp.
