Road work to limit traffic on Mora Road

PORT ANGELES — Mora Road closures will limit access to Rialto Beach on the West End.

A section of Mora Road near milepost 1.25 west of U.S. Highway 101 was heavily damaged during severe winter flooding in 2019, when the Quillayute River shifted closer to the roadway, leaving little buffer in some areas, an Olympic National Park official said.

Temporary repairs were made at the time, but a long-term fix is now underway.

Most of the work is scheduled for the summer, when lower river levels will allow crews to work safely in the channel.

That will include placing materials and installing protective structures.

From April through July 7, traffic will be reduced to a single lane near the damaged stretch. The Dickey Boat Launch and adjacent trailer parking area will be closed for construction staging.

Work will pause over the Fourth of July weekend.

From July 8 through Oct. 5, Mora Road will be closed to all vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian traffic beyond Mora Campground, cutting off access to Rialto Beach from that route. Mora Campground will remain open.

Other coastal areas in the park, including Ruby Beach, will remain open to visitors.
