Peninsula College President Suzy Ames, left, presents Patty Morey an honorary Associate of Arts degree awarded to her late son, Mark Morey, at Saturday’s afternoon commencement. Mark Morey studied journalism at the college in the 1990s and did not graduate. However, he went on to an award-winning career as a reporter at the Peninsula Daily News and the Yakima Herald-Republic. He died Jan. 29 of complications from colorectal cancer at the age of 46.
