SEQUIM — The city of Sequim has named Matt Klontz as director of public works.

Klontz has been the department’s interim director since David Garlington retired in January.

Klontz, a licensed engineer, has been the city engineer and assistant director of public works since 2015.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in civil engineering from Washington State University in Pullman and a Master of Science in construction management from the University of Washington in Seattle.

“Matt has strong character and is a passionate and valuable member of the Sequim team,” said Charisse Deschenes, the interim city manager. “He is a great steward of city resources, and I’m looking forward to working with him closely in his new role.”
