PORT ANGELES — Veteran Master Gardener Muriel Nesbitt will share recommendations for preparing harvested fruit and vegetables for storage at noon Thursday.

The lecture, “Storing the Harvest,” will be in the county commissioners meeting room (Room 160) at the Clallam County Courthouse, 223 E. Fourth St.

This free presentation is part of the Green Thumb education series sponsored by the WSU Clallam County Master Gardeners.

Nesbitt will present methods for preserving the shelf life of winter squashes and pumpkins, garlic and onions, potatoes and apples and green tomatoes for winter consumption. She does not plan to discuss canning, freezing or dehydrating.

Nesbitt, who earned a doctorate in genetics from the University of Washington, retired from teaching biology at the University of California, San Diego. She directed the Clallam County Master Gardener program 2009-12.

The hour-long Master Gardener Green Thumb Garden Tips education series sessions are presented on the second and fourth Thursday of each month.
