PORT TOWNSEND: Attorneys meet to discuss Carousel funds

Port Townsend City Attorney John Watts met with Peggy Ann Bierbaum, attorney for the Port Townsend Carousel Association, on Monday afternoon to discuss the association’s use of a $10,000 lodging tax grant.

March 31 was the deadline for the association to reimburse Port Townsend for the bed tax funds spent on a carousel.

City Manager David Timmons says the association broke state law by purchasing a second carousel, rather than building a pavilion for an existing carousel as set out in the grant agreement.

Watts said the matter could still be referred to Jefferson County Prosecuting Attorney Juelie Dalzell for consideration of a charge of theft of public funds.
