David Robbins is having an easier time than his family in dealing with the mysterious illness that has blinded him for the past 10 days.

A 17-year-old senior at Sequim High School, Robbins lost his sight as well as feeling in his left hand and the left side of his face.

He said doctors have told him his ailment is caused by pressure on his brain and optic nerve in connection with chicken pox he had as a child.

Robbins first noticed something wrong while helping a friend move two weeks ago.

“I told him the lighting in his new house sucked,” Robbins said Saturday during a telephone interview from his bed at Olympic Memorial Hospital.

“He said the lighting was fine.”
