PORT TOWNSEND — Want to get airborne this summer?

Look no further than the annual Airport Days event this weekend at Jefferson County International Airport.

The annual fly-in takes place Saturday and Sunday on the grounds of the airport, four miles south of Port Townsend off state Highway 19.

The event is sponsored by the Jefferson County chapter of the Experimental Aircraft Association and the Port of Port Townsend, which owns the airport.

Last week, the aircraft association held its regional air show at Arlington and more than 1,500 planes showed up.

The Port Townsend event is much smaller, but the quaint field gives visitors a chance to learn more about the aircraft.

Rides for children

Many pilots will be on hand to show off their small planes, and association members will be on hand to give children rides in the Young Eagles program.

More than 1 million children ages 7 to 17 have participated in the flights across the nation.

Food at Airport Days will be available at the Spruce Goose Cafe, open 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
