Clallam commissioners seek to replace padding in jail cells

PORT ANGELES — Safety-cell padding in the Clallam County jail and juvenile detention facility that has been picked, torn and — in some cases — chewed off the cell walls will be replaced soon.

County commissioners on Tuesday called for bids by 10 a.m. May 3 for the replacement project recommended by Public Works Director Craig Jacobs.

“I can’t believe they chew that stuff off the walls eventually,” Jacobs told commissioners in a briefing Monday.

Safety cells are where inmates are placed if they are thought to be dangerous to themselves.
