First-ever PAHS track and field symposium set
PORT ANGELES — The 2026 Track Symposium will bring together past legends of Port Angeles Track and Field with current athletes with the intent of inspiring, motivating and building a stronger future for Port Angeles Track and Field.
A high school-age event will be held at the high school track at 5 p.m. Saturday.
Athletes in eighth grade or younger can attend a second event at the track at 5 p.m. April 11.
Featured speakers include longtime former Riders Track and Field coach and Port Angeles High School Athletic Hall of Fame member Bob Sheedy; PAHS Hall of Fame member and former University of Washington and NFL football player Scott Jones; Crescent High School’s Vanessa Thompson, an NAIA All-American in the shot put, hammer and javelin and the 2013 javelin national champion; Jake Baker, the Port Angeles 100-meter sprint record holder; endurance racer Rob DeCou and collegiate sprinter and Port Angeles resident Zeke Hill.
Organizers hope this event will become a tradition that will only help build a culture of unity and family.
Baseball Port Angeles 13, Federal Way 0
FEDERAL WAY — Port Angeles’ Brayden Martin and Kody Williams combined on a three-hit shutout as the Roughriders baseball team rolled past Class 4A Federal Way 13-0 Wednesday.
“Brayden Martin got the start and worked three strong innings,” coach Wyatt Hall said. “He allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out six to earn the win.
“Kody Williams closed things out over the final two innings of the five-inning game, surrendering only one hit and one walk while racking up five strikeouts.”
Williams was hit by two pitches and also went 1-for-1 at the plate with two runs and three RBIs.
“Offensively, the Riders saw contributions throughout the lineup,” Hall said.
Carson Waddell earned three walks and finished 1-for-1 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while Ethan Swenson went 1-for-2 and crossed the plate twice.
UW extends Langley
The Washington Huskies and women’s basketball coach Tina Langley have agreed on a six-year, $7.1 million extension that will keep her on Montlake through the 2031-32 season.
According to her new contract, Langley will earn a base salary worth $1,187,500 in each of the next six seasons.
After a six-year stint at Rice, Langley arrived in 2021 and won seven games her first season and the next season led the Huskies to a 19-15 record, including the 2024 WNIT semifinals.
The Huskies continued their climb and, in 2025, they snapped an eight-year Big Dance drought and appeared in the NCAA tournament First Four.
Last month, No. 6 seed Washington made its second straight trip to March Madness and clobbered South Dakota State 72-54 in the first round before falling 62-59 in overtime to No. 3 seed TCU in Fort Worth, Texas.
