Early Music Festival to present concert Friday

PORT TOWNSEND — The Salish Sea Early Music Festival will present “Concerti from the Court of Frederick the Great” at 6 p.m. Friday.

The concert, which has been moved up a week and scheduled for a special time, will be at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1020 Jefferson St., Port Townsend.

Admission is by a suggested donation of $20 to $30 per person. Youths 18 and younger will be admitted free.

The concert will feature Chicago-based harpsichordist David Schrader, Seattle-based baroque violinist Elizabeth Phelps, Los Angeles-based baroque violinist Courtney Kuroda, San Francisco-based baroque violist Christine Moran, Montreal-based baroque cellist Susie Napper and Jeffrey Cohan of Anacortes, the festival’s artistic director who is a baroque flutist.

The program explores music composed for Frederick the Great’s court in Potsdam, including harpsichord and flute concerti by CPE Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach’s Suite in B Minor for flute and orchestra and a concerto by Frederick himself.

Future performances include “Beethoven’s Flute, Viola and Guitar” on June 8 and “Johann Sebastian Bach” on July 13.
