One cabin saved after another sent into river by floods

FORKS — Other people who lived along a riverfront have lost boats, kayaks, chairs and the like in recent storms, but none of the losses reported so far were as large as that of Kory and Jolene Hitt.
They lost a cabin.
The Hitt property along the Quillayute River just off Hermison Road was flooded on Nov. 15 when a record amount of rainfall hit the West End.
The couple live in Port Angeles and couldn’t get to their Forks property until Friday because landslides blocked access to Forks.
But once they arrived, they discovered one cabin was gone and the other was on the verge of sliding into the river.
The Hitts managed to pull the last cabin back onto the property. Photos were sent to the Forks Forum, the PDN’s sister paper, by Chip Keen, who operates the Quillayute River Resort.
The Forum also was sent a photo of a cabin floating down the Quillayute River about a mile from the Hitt property. The photo was taken by Lisa Kemmerer, who lives on Richwine Road.
It isn’t known for certain, but it is surmised that this was most likely the missing Hitt cabin.
