MOUNT VERNON — The Peninsula College men’s basketball team had three close games at the Skagit Valley College Thanksgiving tournament, winning the finale Sunday 77-75 over Big Bend on a last-second 3-pointer by Jaylin Reed.

The Pirates went 2-1 in the tournament, losing 73-67 against Clackamas on Saturday.

In Sunday’s win, Isaiah Sampson led the team with 20 points and 14 rebounds, while Reed had 17 points. Michael Medlock hit two 3-pointers and scored nine points, while KeAndre Hunter-Holiday had nine points.

Reed also hit a bucket with 38 seconds left and two free throws at 1:58 as he scored seven points in the final two minutes.

Clackamas 73, Peninsula 67

MOUNT VERNON — The Pirates were tied 57-57 with Clackamas with four minutes left to play, but the Cougars made nine free throws down the stretch to pull away for a 73-67 win.

Peninsula shot well in this game (46.3 percent), especially from 2-point range, but Clackamas ended up taking 15 more shots, 69 to 54.

Reed hit three 3-pointers and led the Pirates in scoring with 19 points, while Roosevelt Williams Jr. had 15, Isaac Garcia 13 and Sampson 12. Sampson added 10 rebounds. Hunter-Holiday had seven rebounds and four assists. Sampson had three blocks, and Reed and Garcia each had three steals.

The Pirates (2-1) play their first home game at 6 p.m. Wednesday against Northwest Indian College.
