City of Sequim to host Veteran Local Government Management Fellowship

SEQUIM — The city of Sequim will host Tyler Wiles for a 16-week Veteran Local Government Management Fellowship sponsored by the International City/County Management Association.

The program is part of the Department of Defense’s Skill Bridge Program for military service-members transitioning back to civilian life.

Wiles, who was a master-at-arms in the U.S. Navy, has a bachelor’s in criminal justice and criminology from Metropolitan State University of Denver in Denver.

Wiles started his fellowship with the city on Jan. 6 and will finish on April 24.

During his fellowship Wiles will work with staff on emergency management operations, the parks master plan update, event planning and operations and the development of the City 101 Citizen Academy program.

According to a press release, the city is the first governmental organization to host a Veteran Local Government Management Fellow.

According to Jason Loihles, a management analyst with the city, Wiles is being paid by the Navy during his fellowship, the only cost to the city is L&I.
