A portion of the sign that once advertised the Downtown Hotel tumbles to the sidewalk as a demolition machine takes a concrete-crushing bite out of the building Thursday in downtown Port Angeles.

The building, which also housed the Cornerhouse Restaurant, along with several surrounding structures is being demolished to make way for construction of a luxury hotel being built by the Lower Elwha Klallam Tribe.

Lane traffic lanes and sidewalks on Front and Laurel streets around the project were closed Thursday to protect motorists and pedestrians from falling debris.
