PORT ANGELES — Clallam Fire District No. 2’s Explorer Post will be more informed and better educated once they complete their training, funded by a $2,567 grant from the Port of Port Angeles’ Community Partner Program.

The fire district applied for the funding in 2018 as it continues to train and educate future firefighters who are enrolled in Explorer Scout Post 1012, said Chief Sam Phillips in a press release.

The grant allowed the fire district to purchase 25 student manuals, which cover all aspects of firefighting and hazardous materials response.

The 1,500-page manuals can be reused for future classes as well.

The Explorer Post has 14 youths, ages 14 to 18, enrolled in the program.

The program is geared toward career opportunities, problem solving, leadership training, conflict resolution, citizenship and building character through ethical decision making, said Phillips.
