Walkling trust issues community grants

PORT ANGELES — The Ben and Myrtle Walkling Memorial Trust has announced the award of 12 community grants totaling $23,529.
The trust was created by Myrtle Walkling in 1992 with an endowment of more than $1 million.
The trust uses its income to support charitable and civic projects in Clallam County that otherwise might not happen.
The grants for 2019 include:
• The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula: $2,500 to be used toward the purchase of a 15-passenger van for the Port Angeles club.
• The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Olympic Peninsula: $2,500 to be applied to the Building Futures Capital Campaign to fund a new Port Angeles clubhouse.
• Clallam Mosaic: $2,413 to support nutrition and cooking classes.
• Healthy Families: $2,500 to install security equipment.
• Joyce Community Education Foundation: $2,500 to purchase STEM kits and computer software.
• Olympic Nature Experience: $500 to purchase outdoor gear.
• Olympic Peninsula YMCA: $2,500 to be used toward converting office space into a dedicated youth activities center.
• Olympic View Community Foundation: $2,000 to support Opening Doors to Youth, Sequim Host Homes; a project to support safe living accommodations for homeless youths in Sequim.
• Peninsula Behavioral Health: $2,500 to be used to renovate space to create a children’s behavioral health center.
• Port Angeles Food Bank: $1,866.16 to purchase shelving for walk-in freezers.
• Rainforest Council for the Arts: $500 to provide quality art supplies.
• Sequim Community Aid: $1,250 to create an “Emergency Warming Fund” to benefit those with heating issues within the borders of the Sequim School District.
