PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District (PASD) has announced that 20 of its staff members are slated to retire.

Retiring staff members were honored June 12 during a district retirement dinner at the Chestnut Cottage restaurant.

Collectively, the staff members have contributed approximately 400 years of service to the school district.

The staff are:

Port Angeles High School

Buddy Bear, social studies teacher, 33 years in education, 30 years with PASD; Grace Clawson, para-educator, 25 years with PASD; Barb Gapper, para-educator, 19 years with PASD; and Carol Jackson, math teacher, 24 years in education, 11 years with PASD.

Also, Pamela Munro, para-educator, 33 years with PASD; Michael Knowles, math teacher, 32 years in education, 30 years with PASD; and Diana Tschimperle, secretary, Associated Student Body bookkeeper, 22 years with PASD.

Jefferson Elementary School

Vicki Anderson, secretary, 28 years with PASD; Deborah Rich, resource specialist, 14 years in education, 3 years with PASD; and Laura Knowles, second-grade teacher, 31 years in education, 30 years with PASD.

Franklin Elementary School

Barry Burnett, fourth-grade teacher, 38 years with the PASD; and Darrell Little, custodian, and district Central Services Building, 10 years with PASD.

Roosevelt Elementary School

Julie Rael, para educator, 12 years with PASD.

Hamilton Elementary School

Kathleen Schmidt, second-grade teacher, 31 years with PASD; and Linda Waknitz, kindergarten teacher, 17 years with PASD.

Stevens Middle School

Pamela Kiteley, business office/athletics secretary, Stevens Middle School, 17 years with the district; and Dennis McCarthy, school psychologist, 39 years in education, 3 years with PASD.

McCarthy also worked at Olympic Christian School and Queen of Angels.

District administration

Janis Bane, special programs secretary, Lincoln Center — formerly the North Olympic Peninsula Skills Center — 15 years with PASD; Marc Jackson, superintendent, 44 years in education, 4 years with PASD; and Tina Smith, communications and community relations coordinator, 27 years in education, 12 years with PASD.
