NEWS BRIEFS: Outage drops power to up to 5,000 in Port Angeles … and other items

PORT ANGELES — Electrical power was out Wednesday afternoon for 4,000 to 5,000 residents in Port Angeles, said Craig Fulton, director of the city Public Works Department.

Power went out at about 1:30 p.m. and was restored at about 3 p.m., he said.

A Bonneville Power Administration breaker opened and dropped power to four of the city’s substations, he said. When crews searched the lines to determine what caused it, they found nothing, Fulton said.

“More than likely a branch came down and shorted the system,” he said.

When crews found no damage to the system, they restored power at the substations.

Residents reported power outages on the west end of Port Angeles and near Port Angeles High School.

Neighborhood watch

PORT ANGELES — The Cherry Hill Neighborhood Watch will meet from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. today.

The group will meet at First Presbyterian Church, 139 W. Eighth St., to discuss “Community Oriented Policing (COP) & Neighborhood Meeting.”

COP addresses public safety issues through cooperative efforts between public safety agencies and neighborhood communities.
